William Furlong – Possibility & Impossibility of Fixing Meaning @ Laure Genillard – Open until 09 Apr
A barrage of disconnected conversation and out of context speech.
This show is made up of four ‘sound frames’ – which each consists of a grid of 12 speakers suspended by wires.
Each speaker plays out snippets of interviews taken from Furlong’s extensive archive re-edited into a jabbering multi-channel composition.
Furlong became one of the giants of tape recording after he founded Audio Arts Cassettes in 1973.
Audio Arts was a radical audio based arts magazine combining recordings of audio artworks with artist and curator interviews.
Contributors included, Andy Warhol, Anish Kapoor, Joseph Beuys, Gilbert & George, Yoko Ono, R. Buckminster Fuller, Hermann Nitsch, Mario Merz, Gerhard Richter, Nam June Paik and WB Yeats.
